A FEW OF OUR FAVORITE KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT RESOURCES:
Building
Wealth: The New Rules for Individuals, Companies, and
Nations, by Lester C. Thurow
This book is mostly an economist’s
look at the New Economy, but his focus is unmistakably on the power of
knowledge. Not a lot of hard KM examples, but a book that will make you think
(hard) about the greater implications of knowledge in your work and life.
The
Knowledge-Creating Company : How Japanese Companies Create the Dynamics of
Innovation, by Ikujiro Nonaka
This is my favorite book on KM,
because it brings all of the dynamic factors of knowledge management into one
place. Unfortunately, it’s a tough read, with a lot of academic language
reporting the science of managing knowledge.
http://www.knowledge-nurture.com/ A compendium of knowledge-related stuff by Buckman Laboratories, a leader in the development and implement of KM in business applications. They have links to some highly information articles, book reviews, and other resources, including a small bit of best practice information.
Karl Sveiby’s look at knowledge management. A good starter site, since it lists lots of "what is _____" kind of articles and excerpts from his books on the subject. Sveiby is a world-class knowledge management expert, and is widely credited with coining the phrase "knowledge organization".
Probably the best of the knowledge e-zines. This site still has some product reviews, but significantly less brand names and more practical application of KM than sites like www.kmworld.com.
Information on membership in the American Quality and Productivity Center. Some articles on benchmarking and best practices.
Online magazine about moving business at Internet speed. We especially like the "Reports From the Future" section.
http://www.cio.com/CIO/index.html/ As the name implies, this online magazine is mostly geared toward Chief Information Officers (CIO). Most of the articles focus on information systems, but there’s usually some good knowledge management information mixed in.
This site offers articles on all manner of technology - telecom, computing, trend-spotting. A good resource for keeping current on the latest and greatest, or to review archives for company research.
A perennial favorite. Reading Wired, either online on in the print version, will keep you on the cutting edge of business and personal technologies.
